– Ho fatto il dolce che mi hai chiesto. Lo troverai in frigorifero. (I made the dessert you asked for. You will find it in the refrigerator.) – Here, “lo” stands for “il dolce” (dessert).

Translation

So, let’s summarize: on December 24th, for Italians, it’s “la Vigilia” (Christmas Eve); the 25th is “Natale” (Christmas), and the 26th is “Santo Stefano” (St. Stephen’s Day).

But who is this Santo Stefano, who comes right after Christmas?

St. Stephen was the first martyr in Christianity, meaning the first Christian who was killed because of his religion.

Christians commemorate him on December 26th, the day after the birth of Jesus Christ, precisely because the martyrs were the first to spread his new religion.

St. Stephen is celebrated in almost all of Europe. In Serbia, in particular, he is the patron saint of the country and is celebrated on January 9th.
