Venezia mette un limite ai gruppi di turisti

Venice to limit tourist groups

Grammar

Passivo con “venire”
Passive form using “venire”

“…verrà applicata nei giorni di punta”
(…will be applied on peak days)

In Italian, the verb “venire” can be used instead of “essere” to form the passive voice, as in this case.
The passive form is constructed by conjugating the verb “venire” in the appropriate tense and person, followed by the past participle of the main verb.

Note that “venire” cannot replace “essere” to form the passive voice in composite tenses, such as perfect or past perfect forms. Here are a few examples:

  • Il libro viene letto da Maria. (The book is being read by Maria.)
  • Le case venivano costruite in pietra. (The houses were built in stone.)
  • La pizza verrà mangiata stasera. (The pizza will be eaten tonight.)

Translation

On December 30th, Venice announced new measures in an attempt to reduce the impact of mass tourism on the city.

Starting from June, tourist groups will be limited to 25 people, and the use of loudspeakers 📢 will be prohibited, as they can cause “confusion and disturbances.”

These measures come after the introduction of a new €5 fee for daily visitors, which will be applied on peak days, starting this spring.

Venice was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. However, the United Nations agency has considered twice the possibility of including it in the list of endangered sites, precisely due to the impact of mass tourism.

The lagoon city welcomed 13 million visitors in 2019, and it is expected to receive even more in the coming years.
