La magia del Carnevale di Venezia

The magic of the Venice Carnival

– Pur piovendo, siamo usciti per fare una passeggiata (Despite it raining, we went out for a walk)

Translation

Venice is a magical city by definition, and yet its charm increases even more during the Carnival period.

For two weeks spanning January and February, the lagoon city becomes a time machine that transports everyone back to the 18th century, a period of luxury and mystery.

However, the Carnival of Venice is much older: The official birth date is 1296, but the first evidence dates back even to 1094.

Despite becoming a gigantic international event that attracts visitors from every corner of the globe, the Venetian Carnival has maintained its theatrical and somewhat revolutionary nature.

For a few days, the city turns into a stage where social classes do not exist, and anyone can conceal their identity by wearing a costume and a mask, becoming someone else.
