Jonathan, the world's oldest land animal

Translation

The world’s oldest living land animal has just celebrated its 191st birthday.

We’re talking about Jonathan, a giant tortoise living on the island of Saint Helena in the Seychelles, since 1882.

His actual year of birth is not known, but it is estimated to be 1832, before the invention of the postage stamp, the telephone, and photography.

In Saint Helena, Jonathan is a national treasure, even immortalized on local coins.

Despite being blind and without a sense of smell, Jonathan is in good health and is thought to reach his third century of life – if he hasn’t already!
