Al Bioparco di Roma debutta la tigrotta Kala

Tiger cub Kala makes her debut in Rome’s zoo

Da oggi al Bioparco di Roma è possibile ammirare Kala, la cucciola di tigre di Sumatra nata qualche mese fa.

La cucciola ora ha tre mesi, ed è entrata nella zona dove vivono le altre tigri dello zoo.

Kala ha fatto un giro insieme alla mamma Tila e al papà Kasish. I visitatori hanno così potuto vederla per la prima volta.

La nascita di Kala è molto importante, perché le tigri di Sumatra sono una specie a rischio estinzione.

Grammar

Pronome diretto dopo il verbo
Direct object pronoun after verb

“hanno potuto vederla”
(they were able to see her)

Direct object pronouns normally come before the verb:

– Prendo la rivista e LA (= la rivista) leggo (I get the magazine and read IT)
– LA vuoi o non LA vuoi? (Do you want IT/HER or not?)

However, if there are two verbs, or the verb is in the gerund, imperative or infinitive form, the pronoun follows the verb:

– Vai a prenderLA (= lei)! (Go get HER!)
– LeggendoLA (= la rivista) di nuovo, mi è piaciuta di più (Reading IT again, I liked it more)
– Vuoi la mia rivista? PrendiLA (= la rivista)! (Do you want my magazine? Take IT!)

Translation

From today at the Bioparco in Rome, it is possible to admire Kala, the Sumatran tiger cub born a few months ago.

The cub is now three months old and has entered the area where the other tigers of the zoo live.

Kala took a stroll with her mother Tila and father Kasish. Visitors were thus able to see her for the first time.

Kala’s birth is very important because Sumatran tigers are an endangered species.
