Grammar

Infatti = indeed, in fact, or actually??

“Non è un bosco “naturale”. Il bosco, infatti, è stato creato nel 1961”
(It is not a “natural” forest. The forest, in fact, was created in 1961)

Infatti can be challenging for English speakers because there isn’t a direct one-to-one translation for this Italian word in English.
It is often translated as “indeed”, ”in fact”, “actually”, depending on the context.

The key point to understand is that “infatti” is only used to confirm or strengthen a preceding statement. Let’s clarify this with some examples:

    • Ho studiato molto per l’esame, infatti ho preso un bel voto. (I studied a lot for the exam, and indeed, I got a good grade.)
    • Non si è allenato per settimane, infatti ora è fuori forma.(He hasn’t trained for weeks, so, as a consequence, he’s out of shape.)
    • Vado matta per il gelato, infatti lo mangio ogni giorno. (I love ice cream, in fact, I eat it every day.)

Translation

Some time ago, we talked about the flowering in Castelluccio di Norcia, in Umbria.

From May to July, many tourists visit Castelluccio to admire a beautiful spectacle: the fields colored with white, blue, red, and yellow flowers.

Next to Castelluccio, however, there is another incredible place all year round: a forest in the shape of Italy.

It is not a “natural” forest. The forest, in fact, was created in 1961 to celebrate the 100 years of the Unification of Italy (1861).

In short, a trip to Castelluccio is truly unmissable!
