Umbria, la magia della fioritura a Castelluccio di Norcia

Umbria - The enchanting flowering of Castelluccio di Norcia

Grammar

Dovuto a = due to

“…dovuto alle numerose specie di fiori che sbocciano insieme”
(

In this sentence, the verb “dovuto” is the past participle of the verb “dovere,” which in this context means “due to” or “caused by”.
So, the phrase means “due to the simultaneous blooming of many different species of flowers”.

In Italian, the past participle of “dovere” followed by the preposition “a”, is often used to express causality or reason, and it can be translated as “due to”, “caused by” in English.

Here are some examples:

  • Il ritardo è dovuto al traffico (The delay is due to traffic)
  • La cancellazione del volo è stata dovuta al maltempo (The cancellation of the flight was due to bad weather)

Translation

Castelluccio di Norcia is a small village with only 120 inhabitants, located in the National Park of Monti Sibillini in Umbria, at the foot of Mount Vettore.

In Italy, it is famous for two reasons: one is its precious lentils, a traditional dish and a symbol of good luck for the New Year’s Eve dinner for all Italians.

But today we are talking about the other reason: every year, from May to July, Castelluccio becomes the stage for a truly impressive spectacle, the “flowering” show.

As the name suggests, the “fioritura” (flowering) is the colorful spectacle that takes place in the lentil fields of the plateau surrounding the village, due to the numerous species of flowers that bloom together.

The red of the poppies, the yellow of the mustard, and the blue of the cornflowers mix with the white of the lentil flowers ready for summer harvesting, creating a truly unforgettable chromatic palette.
