Sentiero Italia: 7.200 km attraverso la penisola

Sentiero Italia - 7,200km hike through Italy

7.200 km, 500 tappe, 20 regioni.

Grammar

Forma Progressiva: STARE + GERUNDIO
Progressive Form: “stare + gerund”

In ltalian the Present Continuous is used instead of the Present Simple to talk about what is happening at the moment, to emphasize that it’s happening right now, to describe an action in progress.

It’s formed by with the present tense of STARE + the GERUND of the verb:

STARE + GERUND
fare → STO + FACENDO

– “STO PREPARANDO il caffè”
= I’M MAKING coffee

– “Cosa STAI FACENDO?”
= What ARE you DOING?

In the PAST, the progressive form is always formed with the IMPERFECT of “stare”, expressing an action in its duration rather than its accomplishment:

– “Non ho risposto perché STAVO DORMENDO”
= I didn’t answer because I WAS SLEEPING

Translation

7,200 km, 500 stages, 20 regions. An endless journey that winds through the entire Peninsula, from North to South, including the islands.

We’re talking about the “Sentiero Italia” (Italy Trail), a dream that began in 1984, by the will of some hikers, and inaugurated in 1995, but unfortunately followed by a long period of abandonment.

A period that has finally come to an end: the hiking trail has been restored thanks to the incredible work of hundreds of volunteers from the CAI (Italian Alpine Club). A purely voluntary effort that did not even stop during the pandemic.

The trail has been defined by international press as “the longest trekking trail in the world”, and we are ready to bet that it is also the most beautiful, considering the richness and variety of landscapes that only Italy can offer.

It starts from Santa Teresa di Gallura, in Sardinia, and ends in Muggia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Ready? Let’s go!
