Translation

On December 7th, the largest Christmas tree in the world was lit. “Tree,” so to speak…

In fact, it’s not a traditional fir tree adorned with lights and colored balls, but rather an entire mountain covered with lights.

We are in Gubbio, in Umbria, where since 1981, a group of volunteers has been carrying out a curious tradition: drawing the shape of a gigantic Christmas tree on Mount Ingino by arranging lights on the mountain.

To give you an idea of the size: about a thousand lights and eight kilometers of electrical cables were used to create it, covering an area the size of 30 soccer fields.

The tree is lit daily from sunset until late at night throughout the Christmas season and will be permanently turned off on January 8th.
