Grammar

Visto che = since, given that

“…visto che per trovare l’uscita ci vogliono tra i 30 e i 45 minuti.”
(…since it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to find the way out.)

In this sentence, “visto che” can be translated as “since” or “given that”.
It introduces a causal relationship between the two parts of the sentence, implying that the fact that it’s useful to take a break is connected to the amount of time it takes to find the exit.

Here are some examples:

  • Visto che fuori piove, rimaniamo a casa. (Since it’s raining outside, let’s stay home.)
  • Visto che hai tempo libero, perché non ti iscrivi a un corso di lingue? (Since you have free time, why don’t you enroll in a language course?)
  • Non ti preoccupare, visto che ti aiuterò io. (Don’t worry, since I’ll help you.)

Translation

A couple of farmers from Saint-Adolphe, Canada, have built the world’s largest snow maze: it has a surface area of 2,789 square meters and walls that are 1.8 meters high.

The maze has surpassed the previous record, also held by Canada, and has officially entered the Guinness World Records.

The gigantic maze has been very successful and has become a tourist attraction, despite temperatures around -30° Celsius.

Inside the maze, however, brave visitors can find five resting areas to warm up by the fire. A much-needed break, as it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to find the exit.
