In Italian, the verb “dovere” can be followed by the preposition “a” to express a cause or reason for something.
In this case, “dovuto a” can be translated as “due to” or “caused by” in English.

For example:

(The cancellation of the event is due to the rain.)
(The delay of the train is owing to a technical failure.)
  • L’ aumento dei prezzi è dovuto all’inflazione. (The price increase is due to inflation.)
