Grammar

Il possessivo SUOI
Possessive SUOI

“i suoi soldi”
(her money)

In Italian, the possessive form for the 3rd person masculine plular is suoi. It can be used as adjective or pronoun:

– “Sono i suoi amici” (They are his friends)
– “Questi sono suoi!” (These are his!)

Be careful: unlike in English, in Italian possessives must agree in gender and number with the noun they refer to, not the person owning them:

– I guanti (m.) di Anna sono neri > i SUOI guanti sono neri (HER gloves are black)
– I calzini (m.) di Marco sono neri > i SUOI calzini sono neri (HIS socks are black)
