Why International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8?

Grammar

Congiuntivo
Subjunctive mood

“racconta che la festa sia nata…”
(tells that the celebration was born…)

The verb “sia nata” is in the subjunctive mood because it expresses doubt or uncertainty about the veracity of the claim.
The sentence is saying that the legend claims that the Women’s Day celebration was born to commemorate the death of female workers, but it is not clear whether this is actually the case.

The use of the subjunctive mood is common in Italian when there is a degree of uncertainty or doubt about the information being presented.

Translation

In many parts of the world, March 8th is International Women’s Day, often also called “Women’s Day holiday”.

However, this holiday has not always been celebrated on March 8th. The first Women’s Day was actually celebrated in the United States in February 1909 to support women’s right to vote.
Only in 1914, did the newborn “Woman’s Day” take place on March 8th, perhaps simply because it was a Sunday.

Over the years, various fanciful legends have arisen about the origins of Women’s Day. One of the most common, at least in Italy, tells that the holiday was born to remember the death of hundreds of female workers in a fire in New York on March 8, 1908. However, fortunately, that fire never actually occurred.

In Italy, and only in Italy, on this day, women are given mimosa flowers, which are yellow and have a very strong fragrance. The reason?
