Grammar

Pronome diretto LA
Direct object pronoun LA

“…la vede quasi come una mancanza di rispetto verso la tradizione”
(
and see it as an affront to tradition)

In this sentence, “la” is a direct object pronoun and it refers to the word “pizza” (“la pizza automatica”). In this case, “la” replaces “la pizza” to avoid repetition.

A direct object pronoun REPLACES A NOUN used as a direct object, it must therefore agree in GENDER and NUMBER with the noun it refers to.
For the 3rd person FEMININE SINGULAR, we use the pronoun “LA”:

3rd F.S. (= lei) → LA (= her/it)

Normally comes before the verb:

– “Prendo la rivista e LA (= la rivista) leggo”
= I get the magazine and read IT

– “LA vuoi o non LA vuoi?”
= Do you want IT-HER or not?

BUT: if there are two verbs, or the verb is in the gerund, imperative or infinitive form, the pronoun follows the verb:

– “Vai a prenderLA (= lei)!”
= Go get HER!

– “LeggendoLA (= la rivista) di nuovo, mi è piaciuta di più”
= Reading IT again, I liked it more

– “Vuoi la mia rivista? PrendiLA (= la rivista)!
= Do you want my magazine? Take IT!

Translation

Ready in 3 minutes, 24/7.

It’s the pizza from the very first automatic dispenser in the capital, just opened in Via Catania 2, in the Piazza Bologna area.

Three machines capable of preparing and baking a pizza in just 180 seconds, with the option to choose from four flavors (margherita, spicy salami, bacon and four cheeses) and with prices ranging from 4.50 to 6 euros.

The idea is from the brand “Mr.Go”, and in just the first few days it has piqued the curiosity of many passersby.

Most people are against the idea of an “automatic” pizza, seeing it as a lack of respect for tradition.

However, there are also those in favor, especially for the convenience of a service available at any time of the day or night, particularly in a student neighborhood.

According to the few brave souls who decided to give the pizza a chance, the result is acceptable: “The mozzarella and tomato are great, it’s good enough for me,” says one of the first customers. “The ingredients are not bad, but the problem is the cooking. Without leavening, the pizza becomes a bit dry,” adds another.

In short, only time will tell if the “Mr.Go” idea will be a success or not. Certainly, winning over the Roman clientele will not be easy: Rome is the city of “pizza al taglio”, the most beloved street food of the capital.

What do you think? Would you prefer to try the “automatic” pizza or the “pizza al taglio”?
