Durante = during
“il video è stato girato… durante il loro viaggio”
(the video was shot… during their trip)
In Italian, “durante” is a preposition that is used to indicate a period of time during which an action or event takes place. It is similar in meaning to the English preposition “during”.
Note that “durante” is only used with nouns:
- Durante il viaggio, ho incontrato molte persone interessanti. (During the trip, I met many interesting people.)
- Durante la lezione, gli studenti prendevano appunti (During the lesson, the students were taking notes)
In these examples, if you want to use a verb, you need to use the preposition “mentre” (while):
- Mentre viaggiavo, ho incontrato molte persone interessanti. (While I was traveling, I met many interesting people.)
- Mentre il professore spiegava la lezione, gli studenti prendevano appunti. (While the professor was explaining the lesson, the students were taking notes.)
