In Italian, the verb “venire” can be used instead of “essere” to form the passive voice, as in this case.
The passive form is constructed by conjugating the verb “venire” in the appropriate tense and person, followed by the past participle of the main verb.
Note that “venire” cannot replace “essere” to form the passive voice in composite tenses, such as perfect or past perfect forms. Here are a few examples:

• Il libro viene letto da Maria. (The book is being read by Maria.)

• Le case venivano costruite in pietra. (The houses were built in stone.)

• La pizza verrà mangiata stasera. (The pizza will be eaten tonight.)
