In the Netherlands sunscreen is free

In Italian, the verb “rinunciare” is often used with the preposition “a” to indicate giving up or renouncing something:
→ V. + PREP. + N./V. (infinitive)

1. Rinunciare a + noun:

(I’ve decided to give up on my dream of becoming a musician.)

2. Rinunciare a + verb in the infinitive form:

Translation

This summer, in the Netherlands, sunscreen is being distributed free of charge through public dispensers.

The Dutch government has launched this initiative to combat the increase in skin tumors in recent years.

The initiative started in June and utilizes the hand sanitizer dispensers that were installed during the Covid-19 pandemic: from now on, they will distribute sunscreen instead.

The dispensers can be found not only near the beaches but also in many public spaces such as parks, schools, sports fields, etc.

This is truly an admirable initiative, and also very “democratic”: according to experts, many people give up buying sunscreen due to the high price.
