Adverbs 

An adverb is an INVARIABLE part of the sentence and it modifies the way an action is done or specifies something about a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
It usually answers to the question “How?”.

Italian adverbs are usually easy to form, by adding the suffix “-MENTE” to the feminine singular form of the adjective.

lento → lenta + mente → lentamente (slowly)
felice → felice + mente → felicemente (happily)

– “Parla LENTAMENTE”
= Speak slowly

– “Non è PARTICOLARMENTE buono”
= It’s not particulartly nice

Note that not all the adjectives can turn into adverbs and not all the adverbs are derived from adjectives. 

There are also many adverbs which do not end in -MENTE:

• abbastanza (quite, enough)
• ancora (still, yet)
• bene (well, good)
• male (bad)

– “Parlo BENE italiano”
= I speak Italian well

“Hai giocato MALE”
= You played badly
