Arriva il primo salmone stampato in 3D

First 3D printed salmon is here

Grammar

“Composto da” o “composto di”?

“The Filet è composto di micro-proteine”
(The Filet is composed of micro-proteins)

The short answer is: Both forms are ok! However, there’s a slight difference in meaning that lies in the nuance we want to convey:

  • COMPOSTO DI > used as a complement of quality to describe the quality of the subject:

– Questa borsa è composta DI materiali riciclati (This bag is made up of recycled materials)

  • COMPOSTO DA > used as a agent complement, answering the question “by whom is composed?

– “Il board dell’azienda è composto DA tre dirigenti (The company’s board is composed of three executives)

In summary, “composto di” is used to describe the quality or composition of the subject, while “composto da” is used to indicate the agents or components that make up the subject.

Translation

It looks entirely like a juicy slice of salmon just caught in Norway. However, it actually comes directly from a 3D printer in Austria.

It’s called The Filet, “filetto” in Italian, and it’s the first plant-based salmon fillet, made using 3D printing.

The Filet is created by assembling micro-proteins into the desired shape, and like real salmon, it also contains a decent amount of Omega-3 fatty acids.

The product has been available in Austria and Germany for a while, and on October 1st, it was launched in the rest of Europe, priced at €6.99 for a 130-gram portion.
