Translation

Marion Chaygneaud Dupuy is a 39-year-old French mountaineer, winner of the “Terres de Femme” prize: an annual award for women who fight for environmental protection. With the “Clean Everest” project, Marion and her team cleaned over 8 tons of waste from the top of Mount Everest.

Marion has already climbed Everest three times, and it was precisely from these expeditions that her project was born: “In 2013, when I reached the summit, I realized how 30 years of expeditions had damaged the mountain. Almost ten tons of waste were only on the peaks! I was shocked.”

So, Marion founded the “Clean Everest” project, convinced local authorities to help her, and thanks to about 50 yaks, she and her team managed to bring the waste down from the mountain.

A great achievement, but not enough for Marion: “My goal is to finish cleaning up Everest and then start cleaning up the entire Himalayas,” the mountaineer declared.

An extremely important project, also because the health of those mountains also affects the quality of water for almost two billion people in China and India.
