Many Italian very common adjectives end in “-bile”, formed by taking the root of a verb and adding the ending “-bile.”
These type of adjectives commonly denote the capacity or possibility associated with the root verb:

– accedere > accessibile (accessible)
– credere > credibile (credible)
– raggiungere > raggiungibile (reachable)
– mangiare > mangiabile (edible)
– accettare > accettabile (acceptable)

They are often used together with the negative prefix ‘in-‘ to express the opposite meaning of the original verb:

– credibile > incredible (incredible)
– accessibile > inaccessibile (inaccessible)
– raggiungibile > irraggiungibile (unreachable)
