Il ristorante dove cucinano le nonne

The restaurant where grandmas cook

Translation

In New York there is a truly unique restaurant: behind the stoves there are not professional chefs, but only grandmothers.

The place is called Enoteca Maria and was founded by an Italian-American, Jody Scaravella.

Jody had the idea for this type of restaurant because, after the death of his elderly mother, he missed the homemade cooking that only she knew how to make.

So in 2006 he opened Enoteca Maria, where every evening grandmothers of different Italian backgrounds take turns in the kitchen.

Over time, Scaravella decided to expand the boundaries of his establishment: now in the kitchen there are not only Italian grandmothers, but “nonnas” from all over the world.
