Partecipare + “a”

“A questo concorso partecipano molti cantanti”
(Many singers participate in this contest)

In Italian, the verb “partecipare” is often used with the preposition “a” when it is followed by a noun that represents an event or activity, such as “partecipare al concorso” (to participate in the contest) or “partecipare alla riunione” (to participate in the meeting).

This is because “a” is a preposition of movement or direction that indicates the destination or goal of an action. In this case, the action is “partecipare” (to participate) and the destination or goal is the event or activity that the person is participating in.

For example, in the sentence “A questo concorso partecipano molti cantanti di paesi diversi“, the preposition “a” is used with the verb “partecipare” to indicate the destination or goal of the action, which is “questo concorso” (this contest)
