Londra: italiano apre bar in una tipica cabina telefonica

It’s often used to describe food dishes, but can also be used to describe other cultural aspects such as music, fashion, art, or architecture.

For example, “fare alla romana” means to split the bill equally, which was a common practice in Rome.

Let’s see some other examples:

  • risotto alla milanese: milanese-style risotto
  • uomo all’antica: an old-fashioned man
  • bacio alla francese: French kiss
  • scarpe alla moda: fashionable shoes

Translation

A typical Italian bar inside a typical English phone booth serving authentic Italian espresso?

It happens in London, thanks to the idea of Davide Astori, a 28-year-old Italian guy from Casatenovo in the province of Lecco, who has been living in London for many years now.

Davide, who has been working in the coffee shop industry for a long time, had the idea to rent one of the mythical English phone booths and managed to create a bar in just 2 meters and 51 centimeters in height and 80 centimeters in width.

The bar is called “Caffè Astori” and officially opened on September 10 in Russell Square, in the heart of the English capital, just a stone’s throw from the British Museum.

After a month and a half of activity, Davide already has about 50 customers per day, including students, tourists, and employees, who allow him to cover the cost of rent of 360 pounds per month.

However, his project doesn’t stop here: in the future, Davide would like to find other phone booths in the center of London and open other small Italian bars in just 1 square meter.
