di solito, “daje” significa “forza!” in italiano, cioè “come on!” in inglese: “Daje Roma!” significa quindi “Come on Rome!”.

Un secondo significato, poi, è quello di “sì”, “ok”, come risposta: “Andiamo al cinema stasera?” – “Daje!”

Come si pronuncia “daje”?

E la pronuncia, invece? non è “dagie”, con la g dolce, come quella di due giornalisti inglesi in un video popolare sul web italiano: la pronuncia giusta è “daayeh”.

Tutto ok? Daje! 😉

Translation

The news that José Mourinho will be the new coach of Roma has gone around the world. Mourinho is, in fact, a very famous personality everywhere.

However, many foreign journalists had some trouble understanding a word in his social media announcement: “Daje Roma!”

What does “daje” mean?

“Daje” is a word from the Roman dialect, and comes from the Italian word “dai”.

In recent years, it has become extremely popular throughout Italy thanks to successful films and TV series.

Usually, “daje” means “forza!” in Italian, that is, “come on!” in English: “Daje Roma!” therefore means “Come on Rome!”.

A second meaning is “yes”, “ok”, as a response: “Are we going to the cinema tonight?” – “Daje!”

How to pronounce “daje”?

And the pronunciation, instead?
It’s not “dagie”, with a soft g, like the two English journalists in a popular video on Italian social media: the correct pronunciation is “daayeh”.

All clear? Daje! 😉
