A Las Vegas usano i Pokémon per dare i nomi alle strade

Las Vegas names its streets after Pokémon

Grammar

Stare + gerundio = present continuous

“Las Vegas si sta espandendo”
(Las Vegas is expanding)

In Italian, the present continuous is expressed using the combination of the verb “stare” (to stay) and the gerund form of the main verb.
This construction is commonly used to indicate an ongoing action or a temporary situation in the present.
Here’s how the structure “stare + gerundio” is formed:

Conjugated form of “stare” (present tense):

    • Io sto (I am)
    • Tu stai (You are)
    • Lui/lei sta (He/she is)
    • Noi stiamo (We are)
    • Voi state (You are)
    • Loro stanno (They are)

Gerund form of the main verb:

    • The gerund is formed by dropping the infinitive ending (-are, -ere, -ire) and adding the appropriate gerund ending (-ando for -are verbs, -endo for -ere and -ire verbs).

Examples:

  1. Io sto mangiando la cena. (I am eating dinner.)
  2. Tu stai leggendo un libro. (You are reading a book.)
  3. Lui/lei sta studiando per l’esame. (He/she is studying for the exam.)
  4. Noi stiamo ascoltando la musica. (We are listening to music.)
  5. Voi state guardando la televisione. (You are watching TV.)
  6. Loro stanno ballando. (They are dancing.)

Translation

Las Vegas is expanding rapidly and is facing an interesting consequence: finding names for the many streets under construction in the new neighborhoods.

To tackle the problem, a construction company had a stroke of genius: why not leverage the vast resource of Pokémon?

The architect in charge of the decision was inspired by his 11 and 14-year-old children, both avid fans of the Nintendo creatures invented over 25 years ago.

The first ones chosen to name the streets were Snorlax and Squirtle, while even a square will be named after Jigglypuff.

What do you think of this idea? And in your opinion, which other Pokémon will be chosen for this peculiar initiative?
